It was an early morning. I’ve mostly settled in, my eyes no longer look like I’m high all the time. They no longer itch or burn a thousand hells. I’m not entirely sure what I did with the 7 hours before we left the hotel. I don’t want to say I wasted it doomscrolling and yet…
OH MY GOOOODDDD!!!! We got to Hep 5 maybe 10 minutes before they opened. We were at the front of the line, I thought it’d be less crowded considering it was 11AM on a Monday. Aren’t these people supposed to be at work? the crowd was mostly young women. Everyone has skirts on, for October I find it so strange. Nobody where’s cute skirts back home, especially in Autumn.
We lost Freya. We got our time cards for the pop up shop, for the other pop up, and the cafe and she just disappeared. She turned up on the 7th floor where the cafe was. My time slot for the pop up shop came fast. I headed to the ground floor and picked up anything that caught my eye. I grabbed what I thought were posters but are actually binders?? Then I grabbed a tote bag and some coasters. The selection was more lacking than I’d hoped. I wanted something to wear but the only sweater was overpriced and uncomfortable.
Cafe time!!! We got into our seats and ordered a bit of everything. The place was nice! I wish I recorded more, they had pictures of all the characters on the wall and 3 projectors running the soundtrack from the movie. As the songs would end they’d play snippets of the trailer. Which is funny because I hear Denji and Reze saying the same voice lines like a million times in the hour we were there.
Our food came, I got the Aki x Angel curry, the two kids got the Denji x Makima movie date Spaghetti, my mom got a Bomb x Chainsaw Man Sandwich. Then we grabbed drinks. I had a beam lychee drink, Freya had a Reze blueberry drink, Logan had a Denji mango drink and my mom had a Pochita latte. Everything was cute, again I wish I recorded more and pictured less. Cest la vie. The spaghetti was pretty good actually, it came with coloured popcorn for Denji and Makima and garlic shrimp. I would eat my mom’s sandwich later and it was also really good. It seemed basic save for the sauces they applied generously atop the sandwich. My curry was… it was okay. Twas my first Japanese style curry and I thought it was fine. It didn’t blow me away but I enjoyed it for sure. Though I wasn’t entirely sure about so many flavours. I had rice, mashed potatoes, a cheese sauce and a black sauce I couldn’t place. Then my only protein was 1 and a half meatballs… I was satiated by the end of all the rice and mash.
Before dessert came, Logan and I went to the spin pop up shop for our time slot. It was 800 yen a spin. I got 6 spins between us but neither of us got the grand prize. The guy before us got 2!! Ugh, almost 5,000 Yen I spent only to get some character portraits, napkins, pins, and more binders. I justified the experience. Though I didn’t see why I couldn’t just buy the stuff I wanted.
Back to the cafe they forgot our dessert. We went through the whole ordering process again and they gave us our Chainsaw Heart Waffle and our Bomb Devil Pancake. I am livid. I should have gotten a video of pulling the pin from the Reze choker so I could edit it exploding but I wasn’t in creator content mode, I just wanted to enjoy. Honestly the desserts were really good. When we left my mom picked up a bit more merch for us though the selection was incredibly lacking. All the pins and buttons and little vinyl stands were gone. Only pochita water bottles and Makima or Aki vinyl stands remained. She picked up Aki, Logan and I had a water bottle each.

It was nearly 2 now. We grabbed Tita Gina’s Okinawa Tigers as soon as possible. That should’ve been the day, we should’ve gone back to the hotel. Instead we wandered around trying to find Uniqlo or H&M; neither of which were fruitful shops. We were hungry on our way back to the hotel. I mapped it so we’d cut through the market first but Freya found a different market to go down. It was like a red light district. Not prostitution but all the bath houses and massage parlours. Food places scattered about, karaoke, but we weren’t stopping here. We passed through until we got to the market I mapped out, then we grabbed a seat at a ramen place and ate. I wanted Takoyaki, I should’ve grabbed it for later but I wanted it fresh and I was full.
We passed by a 100 yen store and I found little Diorama pieces in 1/12 scale. I bought a whole ass road display, with a cross light!! At the hotel I restarted Chainsaw man, I was one episode in before my mother proposed we go to Kyoto to pick up her Starbucks Kyoto mug.
It was a two hour trip. One there, one back. I was weathered, absolutely exhausted. I did however, have the greatest matcha Frappuccino of my life. We got back around 11 and I was out.
